Why I started this program

A Q+A before Better Boundaries launched

I’ve been studying loneliness and the art of human connection for almost five years.

It all started when I moved to New York City. I was great at meeting new people… but bad at prioritizing deeper connection. I felt like I was constantly in spaces where "surface level" conversations were the norm.

That’s why I started The Joy List in November 2016, a weekly newsletter of events that you can attend alone and leave with a new friend. Since then, I have helped tens of thousands of people make new friends through my newsletter, my in-person socials, and speeches on stages like Startup Grind and CMX. I also published Unlonely Planet: How Healthy Congregations Can Change The World, in July of 2019.

My work has been recommended by Esther Perel, Priya Parker, the founder of Eventbrite, and more. (Not to brag— just kidding, I think all women should master the art of bragging.) I have also been featured in The Wall Street Journal, NBC, and NPR.

I have been trained by Woman Within International to host psychologically safe women’s circles, and am currently training to be a facilitator for their weekend immersive. I am also in the process of becoming a certified coach through the Coach Training Alliance.

My mission is to help people understand themselves more deeply— so that they can connect more with others. The Better Boundaries Series will help you do both of those things. Want to join me?
